Community Meeting on Proposed

Trash-Rail Transfer Station

Thursday, March 3, 2022,

at 6 PM in Pleasantville, New Jersey

March 3, 2022

When: Thursday, March 3, 2022 at 6 p.m.

Where: St. Mary’s Episcopal Church

118 W. Bayview Avenue

Pleasantville, NJ

Why: Residents of Pleasantville and surrounding communities are invited to attend an important community meeting that will provide an opportunity to discuss the implications of the proposed Pleasantville trash-rail transfer station.

As the implementing agency of the Atlantic County Solid Waste Management Plan for more than 40 years, the Atlantic County Utilities Authority (ACUA) will provide real data and insight into operations to provide context for the proposed project.

Additional background:

The trash-rail transfer station proposed for Devins Lane and Washington Avenue in Pleasantville would accept up to 500 tons of trash per day.

The project would significantly impact Pleasantville and Egg Harbor Township residents by increasing truck traffic, noise and odors.

The proposed site is 8,000 square ft., the same size as a dollar store, which is not adequate to handle the proposed operation.

The traffic plan does not account for the number of trucks this facility would bring. There is no designated turning lane, traffic light or adequate overflow area for trucks in que.

The project owner has not addressed questions from its original application to the Atlantic County Planning Board.

The process for this project has not been transparent, and there has been no outreach to inform the community of its impacts.

The site is not needed. Atlantic County already has a designated safe disposal site for this material, which is currently the transfer station at ACUA in Egg Harbor Township.
